To Be Faithful Servants Walking God's Talk
Altar Server Ministry
The Altar Server Ministry is composed of boys and girls in Grade 4 or higher who volunteer their time and talents to serve at the Sunday Masses at St. Patrick’s Parish and San Lorenzo School. The Altar Servers are also invited to volunteer their time and talents to serve at other Masses and Liturgies such as weddings, Stations of the Cross during Lent, First Communion, Confirmation, and Graduation Masses, etc.
The Altar Server ministry is an extremely important one at St. Patrick’s Parish because Altar Servers assist the priest/celebrant in setting the tone of the Mass and in leading the congregation in worship. Altar Servers do this by their own personal commitment to the ministry, by their reverent behaviour in the sanctuary (the area surrounding the Altar), and by the respectful and competent execution of their duties.
Altar Servers are required to participate in two mandatory training sessions before they become part of the ministry — and once part of the ministry, Altar Servers are expected to attend mandatory on-going training sessions to further develop their knowledge and skills with regards to the ministry.
Once fully trained, Altar Servers are placed on a schedule that is distributed via email. Every effort is made to ensure that all those who participate in the ministry get equal opportunity to serve at the Mass of their choosing. It is very important to the well-being of the ministry that Altar Servers honour their commitment by showing up for their scheduled times to serve. If interested in becoming an Altar Server, please contact the parish office.
