Social Justice

Our Social Justice Ministries respond to Christ’s call to serve those in need and work for a more just and compassionate society. Through outreach, advocacy, and hands-on service, these ministries support vulnerable members of our community and promote dignity for all.

Types of Social Justice Ministries

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization whose mission is to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy. Society members visit families in their homes to provide emergency assistance by way of food, clothing and furniture.

The Social Justice Ministry meet regularly to share social justice reflections. We support Development and Peace Caritas Canada and assist in running their annual campaigns. We collect backpacks for low-income families, milk bags to make reliable mats for the homeless and casseroles to feed the homeless at Good Sheppard in Toronto. Out of the Cold offers hospitality and practical support to individuals experiencing homelessness, including meals and community connection. Parish volunteers work together to provide warmth, dignity, and care during the winter months. Click here for more information about making and delivering a casserole.

Our mission is to foster understanding and healing with Indigenous communities and deepen our respect and appreciation for the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Indigenous peoples. We offer events in our parish that promote justice and mutual respect with Indigenous persons within our community and throughout Canada.  Through Drum Beat, our Healing and Reconciliation Ministry newsletter, we also share stories, reflections, and resources that raise awareness and encourage our community to walk together on the path of truth and reconciliation. To learn more, contact Dave Steeves, and to view our Drum Beat newsletter, click here
